High Levels of Neonicotinoid Insecticides Found in Irish Honey

Texas A&M Researchers Launch Study to Understand Fall Armyworm Behavior and Genetics

Texas A&M AgriLife Research scientists, led by Professor Greg Sword and graduate student Ashley Tessnow, are conducting a three-year project funded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture to study the behaviors, genetics, and migratory patterns of fall armyworm strains in the U.S. The research focuses on two strains—C-strain (prefers corn) and R-strain (prefers rice and grasses)—and their hybrid populations, aiming to develop targeted control strategies and reduce reliance on chemical insecticides. The study uses advanced DNA technology, population genomics, and stable isotope analysis to track migration patterns from California to the Carolinas, with a focus on understanding whether moths migrate only north-to-south or in a continuous cycle driven by climate. The project began in January 2021.

Ambrosia Beetles Mounting an Attack in Gulf County

The redbay ambrosia beetle (Xyleborus glabratus), a non-native pest from East Asia, is attacking healthy trees such as redbay, sassafras, and avocado, spreading the deadly laurel wilt disease.
